About the Role
As a Senior Data QA Engineer, you will be responsible for the accuracy, reliability and compliance of healthcare data powering Abacus Insights’ cloud-native data management platform.
The role involves designing automated testing frameworks, developing data validation strategies, performing advanced data profiling, resolving high-impact data quality issues and partnering with Engineering, Product and other teams to maintain high-quality healthcare datasets at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain enterprise-scale automated data quality validation frameworks.
- Develop rules engines, anomaly detection and monitoring for completeness, conformity, integrity and timeliness.
- Design automated testing strategies for healthcare data ingestion, transformation and downstream pipelines.
- Lead root cause analysis for critical data quality defects and drive remediation.
- Define data quality standards, strategies and best practices across data pipelines.
- Work with Engineering, Product, Operations and Project Management teams to translate requirements into technical test plans.
- Review software and data defects and establish reproducible issue documentation standards.
- Build QA automation frameworks and dashboards using SQL, Python, Java and cloud-native technologies.
- Design system verification protocols and participate in architecture discussions.
- Perform advanced data mining and profiling on healthcare and client-specific datasets.
- Maintain test plans, validation criteria, rule catalogs and QA runbooks.
- Mentor junior and mid-level QA engineers.
- Serve as an escalation point for data quality-related issues.
- Ensure data quality and security processes align with PHI, HIPAA, SOC 2 and company governance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 6β8+ years of experience in Data Quality Engineering and Data Engineering.
- Significant experience in healthcare technology or payer/provider environments.
- Expert-level SQL skills for complex data manipulation, validation and profiling.
- Experience leading data quality projects from planning through implementation.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare data such as enrollment, medical claims, pharmacy claims and provider data.
- Hands-on automation scripting experience with Python or Java.
- Experience building reusable QA automation frameworks.
- Production experience with AWS services such as S3, EC2, SSM and Athena.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, data integration, data mapping and enterprise QA testing.
- Experience building automated QA applications, dashboards or custom rule frameworks.
- Ability to analyze large-scale datasets and identify systemic quality issues.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
- Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills.
